iCal+iPhone+Google calendars untangled!
For a while, I used a combination of iCal on my MacBook Pro and iPhone, as well as some Google Calendar subscriptions. My calendars included quite an assortment of work meetings, vacation schedules, personal activities, family stuff, volunteering, and project milestones. I mustered up the courage to untangle these, and now am using Google Calendars for all calendars and syncing them on my laptop and iPhone. With Google CalDav, my iCals can work like normal (color coded, alarms, enter events from my computer or phone and sync to the master calendar.) It’s amazing! And so tidy!
If you want to master your calendars with any combination of Google / Mac / iPhone, you will find these links useful.
1. Google Calendars synced with iCal on your Mac
2. Google Calendars synced with your iPhone (your phone needs OS 3+)
If you have existing iCal calendars that you want to migrate from your computer to Google, you can do this easily! Select the calendar to export. Go to File > Export > Export (file type should be .ics). Then import the exported calendar data into a freshly created Google calendar (you can do this right on your mac).
Hurray for being organized!
