Very first 1% for the Planet meetup held in Denver
by News Editor
Yesterday afternoon, Susan Snipes of Q Digital Studio attended the first-ever gathering of 1% for the Planet Members (1% FTP) in the east Highlands area north of downtown Denver. Over a dozen local members gathered with Board Member Lara Pearson for an informal meetup to learn more about fellow members and discuss ideas for the future of the organization. Northstar Brewery was a convenient location for a convergence of folks from around the front range area, and showed off the work of 1% FTP member Fiddlehead Designs who constructed the new brewery’s concrete bar.
Q Digital Studio joined 1% FTP in March of 2006, and has watched the organization grow rapidly in size and prominence over the past year. Propelled by 1% FTP co-founder Yvon Chouinard’s new autobiography and the national growing focus on green design practices and sustainability, the 2006 goals for new member growth were far exceeded, and membership is at nearly 500 members. Lara Pearsons says 2007 will be a year for 1% FTP to focus on continuing growth, build additional awarenesss and design new ways to create member and non-profit community.
1% for the Planet is an alliance of companies that recognize the true cost of doing business and donate 1% of their sales to environmental organizations worldwide. The 1% FTP environmental alliance is designed to help its members become sustainable businesses and an environmental group database aids membership to make choices with their corporate grants to environmental organizations.
