Add sparkle to your Web site with a flash callout
by Susan Snipes
- Do you like flash, but still want a user-friendly Web site?
- Does your Web site need some extra pizzazz, but you don’t want to redo the whole thing?
- Do you have a new product you’d like to promote on your Web site?
If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, a flash callout may be just what you need!
What is a callout?
In the context of a Web site, a callout is a quotation, often surrounded by a box or other visual device, that uses large text to set it apart from the rest of the page. The effect is to draw attention to the contents in the callout area.
Why flash?
With flash, you can animate the callout. A simple animation will draw your visitor’s eyes to the text, without over-stimulating them.
What’s next?
1. Determing what you want to add to or emphasize on your Web site. Is it a new product? Is it an area that people have been overlooking? Is it a conference or upcoming event?
2. Decide where you want the callout to go. Common options are adding a box on the home page or adding a callout to every page near the navigation.
3. Work with your design and/or marketing team to determine the right shape, colors, and style of animation for the callout as well as the most catchy words to draw your visitors in.
Keep it simple, a little goes a long way!
